

A lifelong resident of New Bedford, Lucy was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary Jo Goes. Mrs. Spooner worked as a home health aide at St Luke’s Hospital for 18 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, Bluebirds Senior Club, St Mary’s Guild, St Luke’s Retiree’s Organization and donated to multiple charitable organizations, such as St Jude Children’s Research Hospital faithfully. A lifelong, devout Catholic of St. Mary's Church in New Bedford, Lucy exemplified a true Christian in every sense of the word. Through selflessness, giving, and kindness, she instilled grace in every person she came in contact with.
Surviving are her 2 daughters; Jean DeCoffe and her husband Murray of Mattapoisett, Bonnie F. Waite and her husband Richard of Acushnet, 1 son; Daniel A. Spooner of Mattapoisett, 10 grandchildren; Melissa J. DeCoffe of Mattapoisett, Mary Beth Carter and her husband H. Thomas Carter of San Francisco, CA, Michael M. DeCoffe of Mattapoisett, Chad Lucas of Acushnet, Scott R. Waite of New Bedford, Maureen E. DeCoffe of Fall River, Jennifer J. Waite of Fairhaven, Matthew A. Waite of New Bedford, Shana L. Spooner of New Bedford, Daniel A. Spooner, Jr. of FL, 1 sister; Incarnation “Inky” Goes of New Bedford (who was a lifelong companion), 1 brother; Manuel Goes, Jr. of Millis, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and her dear cousin Mary Ferreia of New Bedford. She was the sister of the late Joseph and John Goes.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 9:30 am at ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 am at St Mary Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 from 4 pm to 8 pm. Burial at Pine Grove Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 and Bishop Stang High School, 500 Slocum Road, North Dartmouth, MA. 02747-2999.
