

Mary was born in New Bedford in December, 1920, the daughter of Manuel and Rose Correia of Fairhaven. She attended the Fairhaven School system. She was formerly married to Channing Hayward of Fairhaven and Napoleon-Pete Roy of Fairhaven.
Mary was employed in the needle trade as a skilled stitcher for most of her younger years. She enjoyed making clothing and other items for her family. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching the New England Patriots. She was known for her sense of humor and her passion for caring of children. She was a past member of the East Fairhaven Improvement Association.
Mary is survived by one brother, William Correia of New Bedford: one son, Wayne Hayward and his companion Danielle Rae of Fairhaven: two daughters, Rosemary Davidsen and her husband Hans of Fort Myers Beach, FL and Mary Johnson and her husband Arthur of Auburn: two grandsons, Mark Johnson of Canada and Victor Barron of Westport: three granddaughters Amy Meunier of E. Freetown, Lisa Squires of Spencer and Erika Hayward of New Bedford: four great grandchildren Thomas Pollitt, Leah Ignacio, Kristianna Landry and Zoe Meunier: several nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by six brothers, Augustus-James, Calvin, Francis, Manuel Jr, Albert, and Donald Correia: two sons, Robert and Pfc United States Marine Corps Peter Roy. Mary was a gold star mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family of Mary Hayward wishes to thank the Fairhaven Community Nurse and Hospice Care for their support.
Her Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Cushing Cemetery, Mendall Rd., Mattapoisett. Private arrangements are in the care of ROCK FUNERAL HOME, New Bedford. www.rock-funeralhome.com
