Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Andrew Avila and Claire Cutty, he was a lifelong resident of the area.
Mr. Avila was the owner and operator of Mike Avila Shopping Cart Specialist for 37 years before retiring recently due to illness.
He is survived by his children, Kimberly Vermette and her husband Joseph of New Bedford, Rebecca Gramlich of East Freetown, Michael Avila and his wife Karen of Freetown and Gregory Avila of Rhode Island; thirteen grandchildren; one brother; three sisters and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Jennifer Avila.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 11 AM at Christian Fellowship Center, 822 Church St., New Bedford.
