I was so sorry to read of Noel’s passing. She was always dedicated to the betterment of the world, and acted accordingly.  She was an exceptional human being.

Miss Tripp you were a hard ass but you made us all so much better and we loved you! Class of 1976.

Dear Mihai, Friends and Colleagues of Ms. Tripp:

I was just thinking about Miss Tripp when I read a story about an author who said one of his influences was Eudora Welty, an author we discussed at length in class.  She was my teacher at NBHS class of 1983 and I am not sure what year? I recall poetry and American Literature with a Southern interest.  However, Miss Tripp was profound in so many ways…She had a great mind and beautiful style.  I think we “knew” she was highly educated, a only child and a  “Miss”, but she was self-assured and truly passionate about her student’s understanding literature and literacy as a path to understanding the past and looking to the future, intertwined with everything life has to offer from family, politics or religion.

Miss Tripp seemingly appeared to be ahead of the times-one step ahead of her generation-and quietly embracing and evolving with the next generation all while  quietly giving and guiding Gen X.  I honestly cannot think of a teacher who had a more positive and profound influence on me.

I was always a science person  as my sort of day-to-day, but used the arts and literature as an escapism and framework.  I never forgot Miss Tripps’ unspoken lesson that we are the story now, so when I became a nurse I tried to remember the protagonist was the many patients with whom I served.  That was beauty of her classes, an escape from judgment to understanding, a svelte woman with an unassuming style, but evocative and supportive.

In Miss Tripps class you felt as though she could have easily transported herself to  Barnard or Yale or Bristol Community and never miss a beat.  She was a real and rare gem of a person, teacher, woman.

I did hear she had adopted Mihai a little bit later in life and seemed like a legacy she was deemed to fulfill-a connection and completion of her as  mother.  I have met Mihai as a toddler once and Miss Tripp showed her  unconditional love and positivity.  Alzheimer’s is a human tragedy.

It so saddened me to learn of Noni’s passing. She was my 10th grade English teacher at NBHS, the year my mother died. Of all my teachers, Noni was the one who took a personal interest in my grief, offering me friendship and counsel. We stayed in contact until recently, a relationship of nearly 60 years. Noni understood the value of friendship, was a very good one to me, and my life has been greatly enriched by her actions and presence.

Mihai, I would love to talk with you one day when you have some time.
