January 10, 1932 – April 25, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Olivia Soares Cabral, 93, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, on April 25, 2025.
Born in Feteira Pequena, Nordeste, São Miguel, Açores, Olivia was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a cherished member of New Bedford’s Portuguese immigrant community. She was the proud matriarch of the Cabral family and a steadfast presence in the lives of her children, whom she lovingly raised as a single mother after the untimely passing of her beloved husband, Manuel Cabral, in 1974.
A devout Catholic, Olivia prayed faithfully for those around her. She found joy in gardening and was known for her beautifully maintained garden. Her passion for cooking brought people together—her caçoila recipe was especially beloved.
Above all, Olivia adored her family. Her children and grandchildren, whom she fondly called her “precious jewels,” were the light of her life. Olivia was known for her warmth, her radiant smile, and her laugh that could light up any room. She touched the lives of all who knew her.
Olivia is survived by her loving children: Gizela Cabral-Pinto (husband Moises), Carlos Cabral, and Octavio Cabral (wife Joanna) Her treasured grandchildren: Julian Pinto (wife Michelle) and Brittney Cabral (significant other Charles) Her dear brother: José Soares, of Paris, France as well as many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
She is reunited in eternal peace with her husband, Manuel Cabral; her siblings Manuel, Silvina, Maria José, Gilda, and Maria de Lurdes; and her parents, João Francisco Soares and Maria Andrade.
The Cabral family extends heartfelt thanks to Olivia’s dedicated doctors, nurses, and caregivers—especially Dr. Eric Levine, Paula Walsh P.A., Maria Antónia Barbosa, and Clarinda Fernandes—for their compassionate care.
Olivia’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Forever loved. Forever remembered.
