Rene A. Gadbois

Rene A. Gadbois, 82, of Lakeville and Lady Lake, Florida passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Pauline T. (Meunier) Gadbois. They were married for 62 years.

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Wilfred J. and Blanche (Lafrance) Gadbois he lived most of his life in the city before moving to the Villages of Lady Lake in 1995. Rene returned home with his wife in July 2013 to be with his family and friends.

Mr. Gadbois served in the United States Army during the Korean War serving in Germany. He was employed at Alden Corrugated and was a correctional officer at the Bridgewater State Correction Facility for 27 years until his retirement. Rene was a mechanic, a carpenter and a “jack of all trades”. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, sports, traveling and dancing on Saturday nights. Rene will always be remembered for his helping hand and teaching all the children to swim and water ski at his “cottage” on Long Pond.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Richard Gadbois and his wife Anna of Sudbury, Susan Morad and her husband George of Lakeville, Bruce Gadbois and his wife Christine of Acushnet, and Steven Gadbois and his wife Monique of Acushnet; a sister, Annette Correia of Tucson, AZ; a brother-in-law, Maurice Meunier and his wife Aldea of New Bedford; six grandchildren, Andrew, Brent, Jennifer, Kortney, and Kelsey Gadbois and Dalton Emond; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Wilfred, Maurice and Lorraine Gadbois.

His Memorial Service will be Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. in St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., E. Freetown. Family will receive friends from10-11 a.m. prior to his Mass. Burial will be private.
