Rhea T. Charon

A lifelong New Bedford resident, Rhea was the daughter of the late Alfred and Elydie (Lecomte) Thomasset. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and worked as a receptionist for many years at Parkwood Hospital until her retirement.

Mrs. Charon was a member and past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6643 from 1979-1980, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member and past secretary of the Freetown Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her children, Richard Charon and his wife Joanne of Rochester; Robert Charon of New Bedford; Elaine Couto and her husband Stephen of Lakeville; Joanne Charon of CT; Lynne Pare and her late husband David of Acushnet; Paula Charon of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren, Robert Couto of Lakeville; Danielle and Jessica Charon of Rochester, Elaine Chapa of New Hampshire; Keith Pare of Acushnet; 2 great- grandchildren, Thomas and Drew Couto both of Lakeville, a brother in law, Ernest Charon and his wife Jane of New Jersey and a sister in law Martha Thomasset of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews and her PCA Bernice (Bunny) Slyvia. She was the mother of the late Therese Wynne, sister of the late Roger and Raymond Thomasett, Yvette Trudel, Simone Preterre, Cecile Jodoin, Rita Gonneville, Doris Dessert and grandmother of the late Ryan Pare.

Her funeral will be held Monday, August 27, 2012 at 9 am at ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4256 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 4-7pm. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
