Robert E. Charon

Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Joseph O.L. and Rhea (Thomasset) Charon, he was a lifelong resident of New Bedford.

He was a graduate of Bristol County Agricultural High School and served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam Era.

Mr. Charon proudly served as a firefighter on the New Bedford Fire Department for nearly 30 years.

He was the owner of the Garden Shop in Sassaquin and later Friendly Florist in New Bedford.

He is survived by his siblings, Richard J. Charon and wife Joanne of Rochester, Elaine A. Couto and husband Stephen of Lakeville and Florida, Joanne D. Charon of Norfolk, CT, Lynne M. Pare of Acushnet and Paula R. Charon of New Bedford; best friend and partner, Greg Tenhouse; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Therese (Charon) Wynne.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., E. Freetown.
