He started his young life of 17 years of age working as a plumber. He then joined the New Bedford Police Department in 1969, serving for 25 years until he retired in 1994. While serving on the police department, he also served in the National Guard for 23 years.
After he retired, he joined his wife Dale, to help run her business Auntie Millie’s Country Store until their retirement in 2009.
Ron was always there for everyone's needs. He could repair & build anything. He was the "old school" type of man, respected from all who knew him.
He mentored the many "rookies" that first joined him on the police department and was always working on Dale's never-ending "honey to do list".
Ron was a member of the" Downshifters" old car club. Enjoyed alongside with Dale, car cruises in his 1951 Hudson and made many dear and cherished friends. Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, metal detecting, traveling, boats, Bowling and feeding the birds. He enjoyed long rides to nowhere and back on the back roads with Dale.
A simple and humble man, a Hero to many; loved and respected by many. He will
be missed by all who knew him. When you heard a whistle, you knew he was around.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Dale; his children, John Herbert and his wife Bernice of New Bedford, Ronald Herbert Jr. of Florida, the late Michael Herbert of New Bedford, Mark Adesso and his wife Paula of Lakeville, Darren Adesso and his fiancé Erika of New Bedford; his grandchildren Jennifer, Tiffany, Nicholas, Bethany, Christine, Kyle, Sarah, Holly, Mike Jr., Laren, Jenna, Brett and Owen; and many great grandchildren.
God’s blessings to all!
In lieu of flowers, please try to do a Random Act of Kindness for someone in Ron’s honor.
