Sherri L. Martin is known for her love of family, her strength, positive attitude and her devotion to her faith. Sherri passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 4, 2025 surrounded by her husband and family.
Born in New Bedford on April 5, 1968, the daughter of the late Edgar and Muriel (Nichols) Boyer, Sherri was a devoted mother, loving wife, beloved daughter, caring sister and friend to many. Sherri attended Holy Family Grammar School in New Bedford, New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School and Wheelock College, Boston, where she earned a degree in Special Education.
Sherri was employed as a special education teacher for the New Bedford School Department at the time of her death. Her devotion to her students and coworkers was unwavering. Sherri's students were her first priority and lovingly referred to them as "Martin's Marvels". When not teaching, Sherri enjoyed floating in her pool and spending time at the beach with loved ones.
To know Sherri was to love Sherri. Her beautiful blue eyes, her infectious smile and sweet voice will never be forgotten. Sherri and her husband Barry were high school sweethearts and ironically found each other again 15 years ago. They were inseparable from that day forward.
Sherri was a dedicated member of New Life South Coast Church in New Bedford. Her faith was unwavering. She fought a hard, courageous battle with cancer but always knew Jesus had the wheel.
Sherri's greatest joy was being a loving mother to her sons, a Mimi to her grandchildren, and the wife to her soulmate.
Sherri is survived by the love of her life, her husband Barry Martin, her beloved sons Ryan Ewaszko (Julia Pasquarello) of Fall River, Nathan Ewaszko (Jenny Bastos) of Warwick, R.I. and Jake Ewaszko (Alyssa Silva) of New Bedford; stepsons, Caleb Martin (Hope Martin) of Tennessee, Nathan Martin (Alyssa Martin) of Fairhaven, and Korey & Nolan Martin of New Bedford. Sherri was lovingly referred to as “Mimi” by her grandchildren Ryan (R.J.) and Tatum Ewaszko, Stella, Lila, Mya and Benjamin Martin and two special little boys, Sebastian and Sergio Soares. Sherri also leaves behind her siblings, Edgar Boyer(Cathy) of Tennessee, Dennis Boyer(Anna Mae) of Florida and Rhode Island and Susan Dansereau (Steve) of Acushnet, who spent countless hours caring for her sister, a very special aunt, Daune Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews. Her family was her reason for celebrating each sunrise.
The family would like to thank the Thoracic Oncology Team at Dana Farber Cancer Center, specifically Dr. LoPiccolo and Stephanie Canty, as well as the Community Nurse Hospice in Fairhaven for the care they provided to Sherri.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation in Sherri’s memory to: Brayson’s Buddie’s, c/o Grandma’s Donuts, 1972 Acushnet Ave. New Bedford, Ma 02745.
