Sulbha S. Joshi, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 18, 2016 after a long respiratory illness. Born in India on June 29, 1933 she lived most of her life in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and Dartmouth, MA, USA. She was the widow of Shankar G. Joshi, to whom she was married nearly 50 years. She is survived by two sons, Milind Joshi and his wife Meghana (Sane), their daughter and son-in-law, Meenakshi and Rajesh Kulkarni, and their son Hemant Joshi of Mumbai, India; and Ravi Joshi and his wife Laura (Landry), and their children Leena, Anjana, and Nikhil Joshi of Dartmouth, MA. She had many siblings and is survived by two brothers in India. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces and their families in India and Toronto, Canada.
Sulbha, affectionately known as Aji, which means grandmother, made friends everywhere she went with her endearing and giving manner. She possessed a deep knowledge of astrology and acupressure, and family, friends and strangers alike sought her out for advise or treatment through the years. She was an avid reader and a woman of great faith and spirituality. Aji loved to travel; she traveled extensively by railway in India with her husband and after his passing with her friends. As she grew older, her ability to travel internationally, despite physical restrictions and language limitations was impressive. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, who meant the world to her.
Special thanks to the staff at Hathaway Manor for making a huge difference in the quality of Aji’s life during the last six months.
She will be cremated in a private service and her remains will be dispersed in India at a later date.
