A lifelong resident of New Bedford, a son of Diane Bento and Manuel DeMello and step-son of John Bento.
Troy was a scalloper for various fishing companies for 29 years and most recently the Mate of the Wisdom up until his death.
He loved riding his motorcycle and enjoyed fishing when he was not spending time with his family.
Additional survivors include a sister, Colleen Gonsalves of Acushnet; six children, Jarid, Jennell, Ciara, Trevor, Matthew and Olivia and a grandson, Giovanni.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 5-8 PM in the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will be Friday, July 6, 2012 at 9 AM at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Street, New Bedford.
