New Bedford – Wayne Robert Eccleston died on December 02, 2021 at St. Luke’s hospital at the age of 70. Wayne was born in Acushnet and lived his entire life in New Bedford. He was married to Lillian (Costa) Eccleston, the love of his life and best friend for 48 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Eccleston and Victoria (Querim) Fortin, both of New Bedford. In addition to Lillian, Wayne is survived by his three sons, Jason Eccleston and his wife Elizabeth, Eric Eccleston and Alex Eccleston, all of New Bedford; one monster boy, Abraham and one brother, Lawrence Eccleston and his wife Maria of NH. Wayne was godfather to Christine Costa and had many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends that adored him. Everyone that knew Wayne will miss his gigantic, infectious laugh.
Wayne retired in October 2020 after a long career with Velvet Drive and most recently with John Deere. Wayne served in the Coast Guard and was released from duties with an honorable discharge in 1974. He cherished his life with Lillian and had many plans for their life together in retirement. He enjoyed travelling, dinners at The Roasted Pig with his Lilliana, cheering for the Patriots, watching classic TV shows and making his yard the envy of the neighborhood. Most of all, Wayne loved being Abraham’s Vovo and looked forward to watching him grow up. He was so proud of his grandson/monster boy/creature and cherished their many adventures together.
We miss him so very much.
