

Wilfred A. Boucher, Jr., “Bill,” 93, was born June 10, 1929 in New Bedford, MA, the son of the late Wilfred A. Boucher, Sr. and Catherine A. Griffin Boucher. He was the husband of the late Mercedes R. (Jarry) Boucher.
Bill graduated from Holy Family High School, from New Bedford Textile Institute with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and from Lowell Textile Institute with an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps, Maryland, from 1951-1953.
He was employed by the A&P in area supermarkets until 1962. He retired from the City of New Bedford after 36 years as a Civil Engineer in the Department of Public Works. He was active in AFSCME Union Local 851. He served as City Hall Steward for 18 years, and as President of the Coalition of Municipal Employees.
A lifelong railroad enthusiast, he served as a volunteer at Edaville Railroad in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a member of the New Bedford Model Engineering Society, the Bristol ‘S’ Gauge Railroaders, the National Model Railroad Association, the National Association of ‘S’ Gaugers, and the Circus Model Builders’ Association. He was the recipient of numerous awards for his fine model building.
He is survived by two daughters, Anne-Marie Boucher (Little Sisters of Jesus) of Baltimore, MD; Elizabeth Winfield (Richard) of South Hadley, MA; and two sons, Mark Boucher (Carol) of East Freetown, MA; and Christopher Boucher of New Bedford, MA; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one niece, one nephew and several cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Brian G. Boucher of New York, and one grandson.
His visitation will be Saturday 8-9 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., E.
