

She was born on July 17, 1940, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of William W. and Mildred F. (Bergschneider) Downey.
Bonnie attended Ursuline Academy High School. She went on to work in several secretarial roles, then retired as a clerk for the State of Illinois. Bonnie loved watching British mystery shows, cooking shows, and QVC, working in her yard, and spending time with her daughters and pets. She was a force of nature with a big personality that was funny, opinionated, passionate, and unforgettable, and in her final days she still enjoyed putting her “face on” with bright lipstick and getting her nails and hair done regularly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Donna Hall, Connie Jennings, and Roberta Miklos; and beloved dogs, Annie and Duffy.
Bonnie is survived by her daughters, Mary (Frank) Burger Ledbetter of New Berlin and Adrienne (Chad Campbell) Parkhurst Campbell of St. Charles, IL; a son, Doug (Erin Jones) Hopper of Eagle River, AK, who had been adopted at birth, but she was able to reconnect with in recent years; grandchildren, Drew (Sean) Burger Tacke and Chase Burger, both of New Berlin, and Christian Campbell and Cade Campbell, both of St. Charles; Doug’s stepdaughters, Emmaliese and Esher Jones, both of Eagle River, AK; great-grandchild, Lennox Tacke; sisters, Patricia Cox of Springfield, and Diana (Charles) Carson of Granite City (who she recently connected with); cousin, Carol Susie Hubbard; former son-in-law, Joseph Burger; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home - New Berlin, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin, IL.
