

New Bern, N.C.- Audrey Mallard Carter, 93, passed away on May 21, 2021. Audrey was born and raised in Trenton, the daughter of Manly and Ella Mallard. She graduated from Trenton High School and attended East Carolina Teachers College. Audrey started her working career with Jones County Health Department working with Dr. Thomas Vassey and his wife, Alma Vassey who was a public health nurse with Jones County Health Department. After her marriage to Benny Clifford Carter she lived and worked in Craven County. She worked for Craven County Tax Office for many years. She was later a patient coordinator for Dr. Hand’s dental office, worked for Craven County Department of Social Services, and after retirement worked as a receptionist for a salon in downtown New Bern. Audrey enjoyed working in her yard, visiting with friends and reading. She loved Tabernacle Baptist Church and made many friends there in the fellowship.
Audrey was preceded in death by her sister, Therian Wilson and her two sons, Timothy Carter and Brian Carter. She is survived by her daughter, Celeste C. Kenney (Roger) of Carolina Beach, N.C and grandsons Matt Hasell of Charlotte, N. C. and Marc Hasell of Yellowstone, Wyoming, her grandson, Daniel Carter of Pelham, Alabama (Angel) and great grandson, Grant Carter of Panama City, Florida, her niece Phyllis Carter of Trent Woods and nephew Jack Wilson (Angie) of Kinston, NC as well as several grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 2 pm on Wednesday May 26, 2021 at Cotten Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Private burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
