Barbara was born on October 5, 1925 to Giovanni and Emma Aiudi, who ventured to the US from Fossombrone, Pesaro, Italy. Along with her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas H. Sears; and her sister, Ada A. Lichwiarz.
Barbara will be remembered uniquely by each person whose life she touched along her journey. In her early years she was well-traveled, leaving her family many intriguing photos of her adventures. She served as a Cafeteria Manager in the Craven County School System, a position from which she retired. In her personal time, she loved reading autobiographies, baking, gardening and soaking in the sun. She was an active member of the New Bern Lions Club. If there is one thing she would want the world to remember, it is summed up in the words she uttered often and peacefully in her final days: “I love my family.”
Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Gail Spain and husband Marty of New Bern, NC; Lisa Waldron and husband Ashley of Douglas, GA; her sister, Polly Pagnucco and her husband Don of Rocky Hill, CT; her brother, John Andy Jr. and wife Fran of Plainville, CT; six grandchildren, Amber Jones and her husband Joey of New Bern, NC; Karen Spivey and her husband Rangley of Douglas, GA; Sherri Edwards and her husband Henry of New Bern, NC; Ryan Jones and his wife Leslea of Winterville, NC; Chris Gray of Vanceboro, NC; Megan Jones and fiancé Jimmy McElroy, of Douglas, GA; five great-grandchildren, Branden Hood of New Bern, NC; Xavier Spain and Isabella and Laila Edwards of New Bern, NC; Caroline McKenzie Spivey of Douglas, GA.
The family will hold a private memorial for Barbara.
