Charles David “Chuck” Jenkins, 71, passed away on June 1, 2025, in New Bern, North Carolina. Born on September 4, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio, Chuck lived a life marked by adventure, service, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Chuck was a proud member of the 1971 graduating class of Forrest Sherman High School in Naples, Italy. During his high school years, he participated in wrestling, baseball, and track. His passion for sports extended beyond the school grounds as he traveled throughout Europe competing in cross country events—an experience that reflected both his competitive spirit and love for exploration.
Following graduation, Chuck joined the United States Air Force and served honorably during the Vietnam Era. His time in the military remained one of his proudest accomplishments. After completing his service, he continued to contribute to his country through his work at Newport News Shipbuilding in the Pipe Fitting Department. Over the years, he held various other jobs that showcased his strong work ethic and adaptability.
Chuck had a natural talent for music; while still in high school, he taught himself to play the guitar. He also had a deep love for riding motorcycles and once embarked on a solo cross-country ride that exemplified his adventurous spirit. Whether swimming in the ocean or hiking through mountain trails, Chuck found peace and joy in nature.
Those who knew Chuck will remember his beautiful infectious smile and unique joyful laugh—qualities that could light up any room.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Lydia Jenkins; daughter Jennifer Allison Estrella (Carlos) and grandson Carlos Bryce Estrella; son Scott Charles Jenkins of Maryland; bonus daughters Stephanie Williams (Jay) and Leslie Ricketts (Derek) of Kentucky; sister Rebecca Green (Bruce) of Virginia, and niece Sara Vargas.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father retired Msgt. David C. Jenkins; mother Joan Crawford Jenkins; sister Janice Vargas; nephews Justin and Jesse Shea Haapanen; and niece Collette Nicole Haapanen.
