On January 24, 2018 Charles D. Phillips went through Heaven’s Gates and was adorned with his Crown. We can just picture God himself handing you your golden harmonica and placing your name on the roster to play in that Heavenly Angel Band.
Born August 30, 1928 in the town of New Bern, Charles worked hard all his life. At the age of 16 he joined the US Army, fighting in both WWll and The Korean Wars. He then joined the New Bern Police Force and boasted about being the 1st Traffic Enforcement Officer in New Bern. Later he was a driver for United Van Lines, then a HVAC mechanic starting his own company that spanned 17 years. He concluded his work career as an Owner-Operator with his wife Dorothy as his Co-Driver. Together they traveled the United States as a team and saw many things as they drove state to state. Charles was a friend to many people as he never met a stranger. He loved people and they loved him right back.
He leaves behind a loving wife of 63 years Dorothy Phillips; daughters, Patricia Phillips Padgett (Steve), Debra Phillips Beasley (Lenwood) and Ivy Phillips Langston. He was blessed with 7 Grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. He has a brother, Cherry Phillips and two sisters, Marie Kwasnick and Barbara Calhoon. Also, many nieces and nephews and a huge list of friends that will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph Beasley, his son-in-law, Gary Langston, his father, Jack Phillips Sr., mother, Ivy Gertrude Phillips, sisters, Trudy and Lana, and brothers Jack, Harvey, and Doug.
Daddy, you will be forever missed and loved by your family. You were a good Christian man here on earth and will an even greater man in Heaven. He was a man that adored his family, was devoted to his wife Dorothy, and he showed it in everything he did for them.
Charles was a member of Spring Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Bridgeton, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Spring Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Bridgeton. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at the church.
