Claudia Jean Houser

Our community sadly lost a pillar at 7:52 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022, with the unexpected passing of Jean Jones Houser, she was 81. Jean was born to Claude and Shirley Jones on December 14, 1940.

After graduating from New Bern High School in 1968, she attended Craven Community College and contributed to the lives of many as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Craven Regional Medical Center. There she met her partner in life, husband, Patrick Robert Houser, Sr. After 42 years, she retired from Carolina East Medical Center and embarked on many different adventures, which included traveling, bird watching, tending to her community garden, raising kittens and spending time with her family and friends.

Jean is survived by her husband of 43 years, Patrick Houser Sr., son Patrick Houser Jr., two daughters Deborah Murray and Erika Jean Houser Smith, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brothers Robert and Richard Jones, and sisters Judi Bell and Jennifer Brooks and the loving community of Croatan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Shirley Jones, brother Jimmy Jones and grandchild Dylan Reed Houser.

Her kindness, loyalty, and compassion for all are her legacy. It will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with as well as those she reached but never met. Her smile, warmth and sharp wit will be sorely missed.
