Coleen Belle Brock

She passed peacefully in her home at 3509 Windsor Drive, New Bern, NC where she resided with her sister Mary Slaughter and her brother in-law Jim Slaughter. She was born in Charlotte, NC and raised in Fayetteville, NC. Her Mother was Charlotte Irene Webster Brock from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Her Father was Guy Madison Brock from Knoxville, TN. She married James Chastain Fokes in 1953. Coleen had two sons, James Fokes and Sean Fokes with now deceased husband James Fokes. Her grandchildren are Chanda Fokes Maxwell, John Richardson, Jessica Richardson and Janell Richardson Rukosky.

She graduated from Fayetteville Senior High School in 1948. Coleen attended Woman's College of UNC where she studied English and and graduated in 1952. She furthered her education from NC Central University with a Masters in Library and Information Science. She worked for many years at the Employment Security Commission Office of NC. She volunteered as a Librarian at Highland Presbyterian of Fayetteville. She also volunteered at Craven Literacy Council, and she enjoyed assisting others in her passion for English and reading.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Guy Madison Brock and Charlotte Irene Webster Brock and her son, Sean Fokes. She is also preceded in death by her second husband, Robert Lee Ostrand.

Her memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Garber United Methodist Church.
