Danny loved his family very much and was especially devoted to his wife, Cindy, as he cared for her and was so attentive to her needs. He loved everyone but children seemed to be especially drawn to Danny, whom they affectionately called, "Uncle Silly." Perhaps it was his fun, loving ways or his resemblance to "Santa" that drew them to him but whatever the reason, Danny enjoyed making children happy and seeing their faces light up. He was known for playing "Santa Claus" during the holidays and enjoyed the happiness that role brought. Each year during the Christmas season, he looked forward to the Toy Ride sponsored by the local Harley Davidson dealership that collects toys for the Kennedy Home for Children.
Danny never met a stranger and if he did, they wouldn't be a stranger long because he would strike up a conversation and before you knew it they would be old friends. He was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. When his home was flooded by Hurricane Florence, he spent many hours helping friends and neighbors with their repairs before repairing his own house. That's just the kind of man he was ... someone who would literally give the shirt off his back if they needed it. The world could use more people like him today.
Danny loved nothing better than cruising down the highway on his Harley and when he was doing that, all was right with the world. One of Danny's trademarks was his long, white beard which made him resemble "Yosemite Sam" a bit as the wind would part his beard to either side of his face while cruising on his motorcycle.
Danny was a gifted with the ability to build things and worked in construction for most of his life. His real legacy though, is in the relationships that he built, the smiles he shared and the love that he freely gave to all he knew. He will surely be missed but his legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all whose lives he has touched.
Danny leaves behind his loving wife, Cindy of the home; his brother, Robert Sawyer of Ft. White, FL; and his loving dog, "Jax." Sadly, he was preceded in death by his son, Jody McDonald.
Danny's family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at Cotten Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday at Antioch F.W.B. Church with burial to follow at the Gaskins Cemetery. In honor of Danny's love for motorcycles, friends are invited to dress in your favorite Harley attire or blue jeans and t-shirts.
