

Dorothy was born in Beaufort County to the late Ernest and Victoria Mills. Dorothy was a homemaker for most of her life along with being an independent agent for Avon cosmetics, reaching the award of "Queen of Avon" for outstanding sales. Her main job was the raising of her family and keeping them fed and comfortable. Dorothy was an accomplished oil painter and attended many classes with painters such as Bob Ross. She also loved to play the piano and passed that talent to her son, Joey. Above all, she loved the Lord and was a charter member of Vanceboro Missionary Baptist Church.
Sadly, she was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, William Edward Gaskins, Sr.; her son, William Edward Gaskins, Jr.; and her grandson, Tracy Alan Gaskins.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Joey A. Gaskins (Carol); grandchildren, Laura Gaskins Riggs (James), William E. "Billy" Gaskins, III, Sheila Gaskins Garrett (Dillon), April Gaskins Lewis (Edgar), and Crystal Gaskins; as well as thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, October 30th at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor William Sealy and Pastor Rex Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date.
