Ed grew up in Baltimore alongside his sisters, Barbara and Susan. He was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, where he first distinguished himself as an All-State football player. He went on to attend Penn State University, where he was a standout member of the football program and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Following his graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps, where he built a remarkable career. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and went on to serve around the world in a variety of leadership roles, including at the United States Naval Academy and Headquarters Marine Corps. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Logistics Management from the Florida Institute of Technology.
Ed retired as a Colonel after decades of dedicated service, including two tours of duty in Vietnam, and was awarded the Legion of Merit for his exceptional leadership and commitment. His decorations also included the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with Combat “V,” and the Combat Action Ribbon, among many others.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Ed and his beloved wife, Linda, settled in New Bern, North Carolina, where they built a life filled with friendship, community, and family. Married on February 19, 1966, Edward and Linda shared 60 years of marriage—a partnership rooted in deep love, mutual respect, and enduring friendship.
Ed was a devoted father to his children, Tracy and Edward, and a proud grandfather to William, Elizabeth, and Abigail. He was known for his humility, his warmth, and his ability to bring people together. A social and outgoing man, he formed many lasting friendships over the years. He especially enjoyed playing golf and spending time with those he loved. He was an avid reader and a diehard Penn State Nittany Lions, Baltimore Orioles, and Baltimore Ravens fan.
Ed will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a man of integrity who served his country with honor. His legacy lives on in the lives of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his daughter, Tracy; his son, Edward, and his wife, Melanie; his grandchildren, William, Elizabeth, and Abigail; and his sister, Susan.
