Ms. Elsie worked at ECIM/Carolina East for 48 years. She loved All of her patients and cared deeply for them. She started the practice with Dr. Bender as his Assistant. Then moved on to the lab as a phlebotomist and was told “She could get blood from a turnip”! At age 68 she chose to go part-time and became the Hospitality Hostess (she also provided snacks to the Doctors to keep’em going for the rest of the day). And Nana sure did love her family. She cared for all the little grandchildren and great grandchildren. She taught us all about Love and treating people the way they should be treated.
She was well known for her good “Southern Cooking” collards, potato salad, sweet tea, bread pudding, and sourdough bread, that girl sure could cook! And she loved shopping! Most of her time spent shopping was to buy for others. Loved QVC, make-up and skincare.
She is predeceased by her parents, Jack and Nellie Rouse and her husband, Wilford Philyaw and by 8 brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2pm Monday, October 17, 2022 at Pollocksville Baptist Church followed by the service at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in Pollocksville Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, David Philyaw (Stacy); daughters, Linda Banks (Joel), Rose Hatcher (Doug) and Jane Davis (Bill); brother, Harvey Rouse (Sally); grandchildren, Scott Melville, Courtney Smith, Madison Davis, Christopher Philyaw, Olivia Davis and Summer Philyaw; great grandchildren, Auston, Jamison, Tatum, Gracie, Whitley and Nancy a special family friend.
