He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Susan; his son, Frank Marra, Jr (Lisa Marra); his daughter Cristina McMinn (Mark McMinn); and his father, Anthony Terenzio Marra. Four amazing grandchildren had the privilege of calling him Bebop: Addie McMinn (11), Emmy McMinn (7), Josephine Marra (5), and Anthony Marra (5). Frank’s brother and sister were two of his favorite people: Anthony Marra (Dannielle Marra); Nancy Beers (Matt Kurajian). Frank was an uncle to many nieces and nephews: Ariana Vacketta (Tom Vacketta); Isabella Marra; Jonathan Beers and many Amato, Padalino, Marra, and Lopez cousins.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Rose Marra (1/7/21); his favorite Uncle Frank Marra (5/23/99) and many dear friends.
Some would call Frank an old hippie. Born in Detroit and residing in the suburbs for most of his life, Frank had enough life experiences to make a documentary. Film was his passion and career of 30 years. As a teen at University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy, Frank was known for his lively spirit as the captain of the Pep Club. In his early 20s, Frank’s political activism made his mother nervous, but not as much as when he backpacked Europe later on. He boldly studied film and production at University of Detroit Mercy College During a time of black and white film, Frank envisioned color.
Frank and Sue moved to New Bern in 2002 for retirement. Sailing the Pamlico Sound was his zen. Reading, writing, talking politics, crossword puzzles, and listening to his rock record collection were his hobbies. Frank had a close group of friends he would travel with, too.
This summer, Frank was able to visit his dad for his 98th birthday on beautiful Union Lake, Michigan. He was surrounded with his large, Italian family, Sue’s famous desserts, and enjoyed sitting beside his father listening to big band music. Frank would rub his hands together at Sue’s cooking. He loved her very much.
Although his death is unexpected, Frank lived a great life. He would call himself extremely lucky.
