

He served our country in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Ft. Devens in Shirley, Mass., and he worked in telecommunications. He retired from the telephone company after 40 years of service. Jack enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Frances W. Batts, two sons, Timothy D. Batts of Hendersonville; Steve E. Batts of New Bern; one daughter, Angela Offenberger of Havelock; four brothers, Vernon Batts, Bob Batts and Tom Batts, all of Elm City; James Batts of Knightdale; eight sisters, Doris Pridgen, Grace Raper, Ernestine Mercer and Pat Mullen, all of Elm City; Katie Williams of Cary; Shirley Gardner of Rocky Mount; Jo Bradshaw of Savannah, GA; and Sue Hancock of Nags Head.
He is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, March 15, 2013 at Cotten Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Lakeside Chapel, Greenleaf Memorial Park.
