James Cates

He served in the Air Force and was a long standing member of the Elks Club. Golf was his passion but his joy in life came from spending time with the many close friends he made over the years and his family.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Lorance and Beatrice Cates of Wheaton, MD and brothers L. Bruce Cates of Rockville, MD and W. Douglas Cates of Rome, GA.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years June, of New Bern; his two brothers David and wife Wanda of Paducah, KY and Don and wife Barbara of North Potomac, MD; his in-laws Joyce Cates of Rome, GA, Beverly Burger and husband Burt of Chicopee, MA, Mark Watson and wife Nancy of Magalia, CA, Russell Watson and wife Barbara of Southwick, MA, Larry Watson of Tampa, FL and Norma Watson of Tucker, GA; and twenty four nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Crystal Coast Hospice Home, 100 Big Rock Weigh, Newport, NC 28570.

Services will be held at a later date.
