James Allen Mitchell Sr.

DECEMBER 30, 1929 – AUGUST 2, 2019

James Allen Mitchell Sr., “Papa”, 89, of Alliance, NC went to be with the Lord Friday morning, August 2nd 2019. Papa was a devout Christian and Man of God. He loved the Lord, his wife and his family. He was truly a devout family man and loved spending time with them. He retired after 30 years of service with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). He had an impeccable work ethic and believed in hard work and giving one hundred percent to every task he performed. Playing the guitar, fishing, setting nets, yard work, gardening, and farming were some of his passions. He loved being on his tractor, sowing seeds and reaping the bountiful fruits of each harvest, alongside his wife of 62 years.

He was predeceased in death by his wife Connie Ireland Mitchell and his daughter Connie Marie Mitchell. He is survived by his son James Allen Mitchell Jr. (Marie), of Alliance; daughter Sara Mitchell of Grantsboro; his sister Beulah M. Mitchell, of Alliance; grandchildren Heidi (Adam), Deana (Patrick), Adam (Whitney), Allen Dean (Kristy), Timothy, Kenneth and Elizabeth (Lee); as well as nineteen great-grandchildren.

The family will have a private viewing from 12:00 to 1:00pm and will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, Monday, August 5th, 2019 at Cotten Funeral Home, followed by the service at 2:00pm with Reverend Ronald Peedin officiating. He will be laid to rest, alongside his wife, at Greenleaf Memorial Park Cemetery.
