Janet Brown Amerson passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 11. She was born in New Bern, North Carolina to Philip and Mary Brown. She enjoyed being the middle sister to Beth Brown Nicely and Allison Lynne Byrd.
Janet had a successful business, Closet Concepts, that she owned and operated while raising her daughters, Brooke Amerson Hand and Nichole Alexis Amerson. Upon retirement, her greatest pleasure was helping take care of her granddaughters Taylor Marie Hand, Madison Grace Hand and River Logan Devinney. They brought her much joy and happiness.
Janet never met a stranger, she loved talking to people everywhere she went. After hurricane Florence devastated New Bern, she jumped into action, volunteering to help rebuild homes. Taking care of and helping others was her passion. She also loved spending time with friends, working in her garden, and traveling to new places.
Janet is survived by her mother, Mary Phillips Brown; her sisters, Allison Byrd and Judy Nicely; her children, Nichole Amerson, Brooke Hand, and son-in-law Jimmy Hand; and her granddaughters, Taylor Hand, Madison Hand, and River Devinney. She is preceded in death by her father, Philip Everett Brown.
Janet’s beautiful smile and laughter were a gift to us all and will be truly missed.
The service will be held at Garber Methodist Church, on Thursday, October 19th at 3:00 pm. The reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Hope Lodge in Greenville, NC where Janet stayed while receiving her treatments.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cottenfuneralhome.com for the Amerson family.
