Jerry dedicated many years to the Craven County Public Library, where she worked in the Children's Department, fostering a love of reading and learning in countless young minds. A passionate antique collector, she maintained booths in several local antique stores, sharing her appreciation for history and craftsmanship. Her greatest passion, however, was North Carolina pottery, particularly the works of Ben Owen. She built an extensive and cherished collection that reflected her deep admiration for skilled artisans.
Jerry’s greatest joy was her family, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and treasured memories. She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Weller, Jenny Wood, and Sylvia Mattingly (Mark McCraken). She was a beloved grandmother to Jordan Wood (Summer), Parker Weller (Maison), Foster Dempsey (Jake), Sumner Mattingly, and Gunner Weller, and a proud great-grandmother to Huck Weller and Brooks Dempsey. She is also survived by her brother-in-laws Gene Beck (Francis) and James Beck (Kenny), her sister-in-law Barbara Whitmore, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Liston Beck Jr., as well as her parents, Joseph and Helen Owen, and her sister, Sarah Preslar.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Carolina East Medical Center, especially the team on the 4600 wing, for the compassionate care, dignity, and kindness they provided to Jerry. They would also like to express their deep appreciation to the wonderful staff of Home Place of New Bern for welcoming Jerry into their community like family and providing her with love, comfort, and care.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Beck family.
