

Joannie grew up on the family farm in the Spring Garden community. Together, she and her mother owned and operated the Shamrock Florist for many years. Later, she worked in the Human Resources Department for the City of Havelock as well as serving as a professional bookkeeper. Joannie loved her family dearly and enjoyed helping others, whether knitting prayer shawls or organizing "Secret Santa" toy drives for families in need.
She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Alan Barnhill; her mother, Dixie Letchworth Dixon; brother, Don Dixon and wife Shannon; nephew, Colbey Dixon; niece, Haven Dixon; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Joan Barnhill; sister-in-law, Margaret Chance and husband Joe; and nieces, Katie and Emily Chance.
She was preceded in death by her father, Earl W. Dixon.
Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10th at Spring Garden Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor David McAnelly officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. With safety in mind, guests are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of CarolinaEast Medical Center, Southern Gastroenterology, and Craven County Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Spring Garden Baptist Church Men's Ministry or to Craven County Hospice.
