
Many people in New Bern know John as the owner of the produce stand on Lowes Blvd. That business was started by him and his son Dean over 35 years ago. He also retired as the Chief Dispatcher of Seashore Transportation after many years of service. He also served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a photographer. In his free time, John enjoyed the simple things in life, one of his favorites was feeding the birds of Lawson Creek Park.
John is preceded in death by two sons; Terry Dwayne Buckner, and John Michael Buckner.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Hilda, son, Dean Buckner of New Bern, daughter/best friend Deborah Buckner Ireland of Merritt, NC, daughter, Linda Collins of Wilmington, NC, grandchildren, Brian Ireland, Ledger Ireland, Harley Buckner, Aniston Buckner, Michael Buckner, Jason Perry, Tonya Stokes, Angela Buckner, Donna Gossett, Andy Collins, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Vanceboro, NC on Monday, February 8, 2021 at 11:00am.
