John R. Gilbert

He attended OH University and graduated from U. of Maryland. He served honorably for 2 years in the U.S. Army. He met and married Judy Ellis, July 5, 1969, when they both were working for the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC.

His career with the CIA took him all over the world with tours in Iran, Germany and India. He received the CIA's Career Intelligence Medal and after 30 years with the CIA he retired in 1998 and moved to New Bern in 2001. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, an avid golfer, an Elk member and Salvation Army volunteer.

He is survived by his wife Judy, daughters Jennifer Howard, Wake Forest, Jessica Lopez (David) Wilmington and granddaughters Jessalyn Howard, Ellasyn Howard, Anabel Lopez and Lily Lopez. His brother, Jeff Gilbert (Susan) of Nashville, TN and his sister, Sharon Camp (Lacey) of Chandler, AZ.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful and professional team members at Bayview Nursing and Rehab and at Crystal Coast Hospice House who cared for John this past year.

There will be a private service and burial, immediate family only.
