John loved his country and was very patriotic. You could see American Flags in his decor and clothing. He truly loved America. In addition to his love for America, John enjoyed fishing, baseball, and traveling all over the world. Whenever he would come back home, John would bring back gifts and stories to his family. They all enjoyed it.
John proudly worked for the US Government. During this time, John invented many mechanical devices to assist with the safety of military planes and also worked on a demolition IED team in Afghanistan. This inspired him to develop his own business, Hawk Enterprises, LLC, that focused on inventing prototypes for the military and inventions for everyday and leisure activities. He was always working on an invention, his latest was a deer stand for his special little nieces.
Most of all, John loved his family and friends. He loved helping everyone in need but had a very special place in his heart for children. John had a passion for giving to all the children he came in contact with. He loved to joke and would do anything to make a child laugh. He resided in the Philippines for several years and always made gestures to send over food, supplies and gifts to make sure everyone he came in contact with was well taken care of. John's greatest blessings were his great nieces, Graceyn and Teagan. He was very proud of every accomplishment and often attended their extracurricular activities. Uncle John loved to surprise his girls with anything their hearts desired. Bojangles' french fries were a favorite to always pop by with. John was just that person who was thoughtful beyond measure. His motto in life was to do for others even if they can't do for you. He just loved giving and giving was what made him so happy.
Everyone who knew John loved him. He had a servant's heart and was willing to do anything for anyone in need. John had a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed by his family, close friends, Cove City citizens, and Employees at LeChris. Leaving behind to honor and cherish John's life are his sister, Sarah Hawkins-Schwarz (Rob); nieces, Jennifer Hawkins (Donnie) and Jessica O'Dell (Josh); great-nieces, Graceyn and Teagan; sister-in-law, Johnnie Hawkins; and many loving family members and close friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and Hazel Hawkins; brother, James "Red Eye" Hawkins; special uncle, Bobby Mercer; his grandparents; and many family members.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00-11:00 am on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Cove City Christian Church. A celebration of John's life will begin at 11:00 am. Following the service, John will be laid to rest at Cove City Cemetery.
