Josephine Bundy Harley

Joanne was born October 15, 1939 in Bennettsville, SC. She studied art at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. She married Joseph E. Harley III in 1960 and moved to New Bern, NC in 1965. She was an active member of the Garber United Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church during her lifetime. In the local community she was a member of the Trent Woods Garden Club and the New Bern Golf and Country Club. As one of the founding members of the Lower Neuse Bird Club she was an avid birder and advisor on local birds. She was a member of the Daughter of the American Revolution, the Confederate Dames, the Pee Dee Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogy Society, the North Carolina Genealogy Society, the Scottish Heritage Society of Eastern NC, and the Marlborough Historical Society in Bennettsville, SC. She loved to entertain guests and friends at her home and she was an avid bridge player.

Joanne is preceded in death by her father, Francis D. Bundy, her mother, Josephine Pearson Bundy, and her husband, Joseph E. Harley III.

She is survived by her three children: Meredith Harley Inserra and her husband Paul D. Inserra of New Bern; Clayton E. Harley and Carol Cumbo of Pollocksville, NC; and Heather A. Harley and her step-daughter Samantha Bivans of New Bern, NC; her brother Francis "Buddy" Bundy and his wife Jean of Charlotte, NC; her nieces and nephews: Deborah Bundy Carpenter, Kimberly Bundy, Holly Bundy White, Matthew Bundy and their children of Charlotte, NC; her brother-in law Mac Richard Harley and his wife Nancy G. Harley of Charleston, SC; nephew Rev. Peden E. Harley and his wife Amy of Wilmington, NC and their children; and niece, Laura M. Harley of Charleston, SC.

Funeral service will be at First Presbyterian Church in New Bern, NC at noon Wednesday, January 14, 2015 with the Rev. Dr. William Hawkins officiating. Immediately following, family will receive guests at the session hall.
