Kevin Nelson

Kevin was born July 17, 1959 to Ellis and Nellie Holmes Nelson in New Bern, NC. He graduated from New Bern High School in 1977 and East Carolina University in 1981 with a BS in Marketing.

Kevin was employed with Lowe’s Home Improvement in Garner, NC and previously worked at Stock Building Supply and CP&L / Progress Energy. Kevin’s humor will be remembered as one of his greatest attributes, and he always spread laughter to everyone he encountered. It was impossible to be in Kevin’s presence and not smile. He enjoyed fishing, sailing, water-skiing, and most of all spending time with his family.

Kevin is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Sandra Mears; children, Brett Nelson, Bryan Mears (Sarah), Mandy Mears, and Michael Mears (Nicole); grandson, August Mears; siblings, Gregory Nelson (Jennifer) and Kara Nelson Joyce (Tim); parents, Nellie Thalmann (Charlie) and Ellis Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Trevor Nelson.

A Celebration of Kevin's Life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern. The family will receive friends following the service until 6:00 pm.
