Larry Richard Otto Learn, 50, of Havelock, North Carolina passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025. Larry was born on February 20, 1974, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Richard Larry Learn and Noreen Olson Learn.
Larry has always had a strong spirit and was always up for an adventure. He was a loyal friend to all, always wanting to help a brother out and an all around good man.
He started building RC planes around 14 years old and this is where his love for avionics began. By the time he graduated high school he knew he wanted to join the Marines and serve his country. He served his country well retiring after 20 years of service.
He built the respect and love from so many in his lifetime as a Marine, was active in his RC clubs and built a brotherhood with his motorcycle club as well.
During his years on active duty he was an Aircraft Chief working on helicopters and enjoyed sailing the oceans of Hawaii every chance he got.
As a retired veteran he went right back to what he knew and did best.
He generously shared his extensive knowledge of the aircraft, readily providing support to engineers, fleet Marines, and fellow technicians at the FST. His problem-solving skills were invaluable, and his dedication to resolving complex issues was truly remarkable.
As the treasurer of the CCRCC club he chaired the annual funfly event for several years.
Thankful for his life and continuing in his memory are his mother Noreen Olson Learn, sister Linda Ellis and her husband Jeffrey A. Ellis, his nephew Jeffrey R. Ellis, and niece Elora Ellis. Also his Aunt Lauren Crudele and her husband Dennis Crudele. Lastly and not least his Uncle Len Olson along with his wife Diane Olson and two cousins Jonathan and Jennifer Olson.
He is predeceased by his father Richard Larry Learn, his paternal grandfather and grandmother Irving Learn and Margie Stroud Learn, and his maternal grandfather and grandmother Carl Albin Olson and Ruth Helen Rosenquist Olson.
We are thankful to the Marine Corps for the privilege of Larry serving the country that he loved.
A visitation for Larry will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, North Carolina 28560, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM.
