Laura Ellen Long

Laura Ellen Long, 84, of New Bern, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. A wonderful and selfless wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Ellen loved her family with all of heart and always put them first. She was a hard worker and devoted many years to Hatteras Yachts, Bosch Cafeteria, Mallards Food Shop, and numerous sewing rooms.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Edison and Annabelle Grimes; husband, Walter William "Junior" Long; son, William Earl Long; grandson, Willie Long; granddaughters, Carol Yvette "Prissy" Price and Tabitha Gibson; sisters, Marie Corbett and Jeanette Sanderson; as well as a great grandson, Khaled Kaudeyr.

Ellen is survived by her loving family which includes her children, Dianne Lewis (Dallas), Guy "Buddy" Long, Gregory Allen Long (Carol), Susie Long, and Douglas Paul Long (Janice); brothers, Jimmy Grimes and John David "Nokie" Grimes; grandchildren, Gary Wayne Gibson, Traci Dianna Gibson, Guy Walter Long, Jr., Joshua Long, Jessica Leary, Jordan Leary, Beth Cumbie, Thomas Gregory Long, Chasity Croom, Daniel Tripp, David Jones, Eric Jones, Anthony Jones, Shannon Jones, Zachary Long, Timmy Long, Sierra Davis, and Ronnie Davis; 30 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved fur baby, "Bella."

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Cotten Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rex Bennett officiating. Burial will be at Greenleaf Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
