Laura Anne Lorek

Laura Anne (Shaffer) Lorek, 37, of New Bern, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on November 5, 2016. A native of Valencia, Pennsylvania, Laura was a proud Doctoral graduate of the School of Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh. In 2004, she and her husband Mark moved to the New Bern area where she was employed as a Pharmacist for CVS. Laura cared deeply for her family, as well as her patients and leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion as a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.

She loved quilting and volunteering at the Merci Clinic as well as at St. Paul’s Catholic Church and School.

Funeral mass will be held at 1:00 Tuesday, November 8th at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Thomas S. Tully, celebrant, and Deacon Michael Mahoney. Following the mass, she will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Laura is lovingly survived by her husband of 14 years, Mark E. Lorek; children, Noah Lorek and Savannah Lorek, all of the home; parents, Chester J. Shaffer III and Patrice (Morsek) Shaffer of Valencia, Pa.; grandmother, Mercedes Morsek of Crestview, FL; brother, Chester J. Shaffer IV of Pittsburgh, PA; and sister, Helen Ward and husband, Donald of Gibsonia, PA. She is also survived by several cousins and five nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Cotten Funeral Home on Monday, November 7th, as well as 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 8th just prior to the service at St. Paul Catholic Church.
