Avis de décès de Laurent Joseph Hostyn
AUX SOINS DE

Cotten Funeral Home

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurent “Larry” Joseph Hostyn at the age of 91. Larry was born in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and raised in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta in a family of ten children.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Aurelia (nee Tremblay) and William Hostyn; and siblings, Albert, Eva, Louis, Bernice, Bob, and Bill. Larry was an incredibly loving husband, father, grandfather “Papa” and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Shirley Ann (nee Conner), his adoring children William Patrick Hostyn and wife Sunga, Rose Marie Miller and husband Mike, and Juanita Aurelia Huryn and husband Andrij; grandchildren Patricia Ann and husband Joseph, Kyle Suhrie and partner Lylybell, M.J. Miller and partner Elise, Anna Aurelia and fiancé Gabe, Henri Bohdan and Isa Andrej; great grandchildren Luka Joseph and Lyla Rae; siblings Lorraine McIsaac, Diane Honkoop, Raymond Hostyn and families, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and lifelong friends.

Larry was a world traveler, with his early beginnings in the Northwest territories of Canada followed by service in the Royal Canadian Air Force on the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line across the Arctic. His extensive career took him to Tehran, Iran where he met the love of his life; across the Canadian provinces including Alberta, Ontario and Labrador/Newfoundland and back to the Middle East in Saudi Arabia. He retired with his family in New Bern N.C.

Larry had an unparalleled love of life, love of family and an infectious wit that put everyone he met at ease. He was an incredible story teller who also had a passion for philosophy and recorded his thoughts and a memoir to be cherished by his family for generations to come. Larry’s legacy and influence will live on forever in the hearts and minds of all he touched.

Our family would like to thank everyone for all the beautiful thoughts and prayers with a special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Robert Whitmore, Dr. Michael Fujimagari, Dr. Ryan Holland and Joy Holloway, RN for their compassionate and healing care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Human Rights Campaign (Memorial Gift - Human Rights Campaign) and The Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS) (https://www.irsss.ca/donate).
