On the morning of Saturday, December 30th, beloved husband, father, and friend, Larry E. Orth, Jr., passed from this life into the next. A man of generosity and kindness, Larry loved his family greatly and was very devoted to them. In his younger years, he proudly served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. A custom home builder by trade, Larry was a true professional who was detail-oriented and took pride in his craft. During his career, he was honored to serve as the construction manager for Habitat for Humanity and was pleased to be able to use his gift to help others in need. He had also served as President of the New Bern Craven County Home Builders Association. Larry enjoyed taking care of things and loved watching them grow, whether it was cultivating his garden or nurturing relationships with others. Although strong-willed and independent, Larry possessed a keen wit and had a unique ability to bring smiles and laughter to those around him. He will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Among those who will miss him the most are his loving wife of 51 years, Sheila Orth; his two sons, Lawrence Orth (Assita) and Kevin Orth (Amy); and his seven grandchildren: Cynthia, Mayah, Jayden, Michael, Alexander, Sebastian, and Violet.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Larry’s life at 3 pm on Friday, January 5th , 2018 at Cotton Funeral Home Chapel. This will be followed by a time of visitation with the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Larry’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE First Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory, www.cottenfuneralhome.com.
