Larry was born January 5, 1935 in Jamaica Queens, NY to the late Laurie (Larry) and Constance Salerno. Larry graduated from St. John's University in 1961, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with majors in management and economics. Larry served his country as a member of the New York National Guard and Army Reserve from 1955 to 1962.

Larry married Shelia Collins on April 20, 1963, in New Hyde Park, NY. They shared 57 years of marriage before Shelia's death on March 26, 2020. Larry was also predeceased by his sister Patrician Joan Mooney and his son Matthew Collins Salerno

Larry was active within the church throughout his lifetime and was honored to become a Fourth Degree Worthy Sir Knight of Father Kenneth L. Parker Assembly of the Knights of Columbus on October 9, 2004.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Karen Boccadoro, son in law, Carl Boccadoro and daughter in law, Denise Salerno, all of New Bern; granddaughters, Christina and Laura Boccardoro (Ashley); brother, Robert; and brother in law, John Collins.

Funeral Mass services will be 11:00 am Thursday January 22, 2026 at St. Paul Catholic Church of New Bern. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and following the service at the church.
