

L.C. was a New Bern native. As a youth, he was a paper boy and a meter reader. After high school, he worked at Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, MD., and then joined the army and returned a World War II veteran. He served his country proudly in the U.S. and Japan. After World War II, he returned home and started Scott Tile & Carpets in 1946. He was always ready to share his historical information of New Bern with heart- warming stories.
Mr. Scott’s father, Mayor of New Bern, dedicated the Federal Courthouse, built the wooden bridge over the Neuse River and his name can be viewed on the oldest New Bern fire truck.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Helen Ruth Wetherington Scott and he is survived by one son, Leon C. Scott, III (Scotty) and wife Cynthia of New Bern; and their daughter, Marie Scott and husband Michael Garrett of Raleigh; her daughter, Dana Scott and husband Charles Rabun of New Bern; Dana Gilbert and husband Andrew, and their children, Molly, Peter and Caroline of Madison, NJ; their son, David Rabun and his children, Cassidy, Austin and Logan of Greenville; a sister, Patricia Razzano of San Clemente, CA; and two nieces, Mary Blackburn of Seattle, WA; and Alyce Lawrence of Chesapeake, VA.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 4, 2012 at Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Pate Greenwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. A reception will be held following the services at Centenary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church.
