Leon Franklin Williams, Jr.

He was a member of Riverdale United Methodist Church. Riverdale was the only church he knew throughout his life. He became a leader in his church where he served in most every area of leadership. During his lifetime, he oversaw many of the large building projects such as the addition of the fellowship hall. He was a founding member of No. 7 Township Fire Department and the Craven County Water and Sewer.

He is survived by his wife, Helen S. Williams, two sons, Leon Franklin Williams, III and wife Marianne, Lawrenceville, VA; Gary Lee Williams and wife Anita of Newport; one daughter, Nancy Williams Lupton and husband Donnie of New Bern; two brothers, D. Rexford Williams and wife Pat; Robert Graham Williams and wife Phyllis, all of New Bern; one sister, Mary Grace Campbell of Havelock; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a number of brothers and sisters in-law, and a very special friend “Meeko.”

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Riverdale United Methodist Church, followed by his funeral service at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
