Martha is survived by her husband of 10 years, Ronald "Ron" Moore; daughter, Landria Meehan; and grandchildren, Ava and James O'Brien. Martha was born and grew up in New Jersey. She began her working career as a flight attendant at Eastern Airlines and retired as a financial analyst at IBM in New York City.
Following her retirement, Martha moved to New Bern in 1996. Martha and Ron had lost their spouses and in 2007 they married. Although they had previously met socially, they did not start seeing each other until after they happened to be seated together at their church.
In the little over ten years they were married, Ron and Martha went on five river cruises in Europe, a Carribean cruise, and they tented their way to Montana and back when attending the wedding of Ron's grandson. Traveling and camping most of the time in a tent, they took a 31 day trip to the west coast visiting National Parks and going as far as Victory, Canada. They then traveled down the west coast and crossed east at Death Valley, Ca. They also took several weeks to do the same thing up the east coast and went as far as Prince Edward Island, Canada, where they stayed several days. After that, they took a similar trip south down the east coast and across the Gulf states. In all of their travels they avoided major highways and interstate road, camping in a tent wherever possible.
The highlight of their travels occurred in 2015 and 2016. They traveled to Spain in 2015 and hiked 200 miles on the "Way of St. James" or the "Camino Frances" from Leon, Spain to Santiago de Compostella. The trek in 2015 was so rewarding and they derived so much out of it, they returned to Spain in 2016 intending to hike the entire 500 miles of the "Camino Frances" even though this would repeat some of the route that they had taken the previous year. In 2016, starting at St. Jean Pied de Port, France in the Pyrennes Mountains, they began their trek but had to stop after 375 miles as a result of a foot injury sustained by Martha. They had hiked 75 miles past the 2015 starting point so that they had walked the entire "Camino Frances."
