

Mary was born June 1, 1934, at home in Harmony, West Virginia and graduated in 1952 from Walton High School. She married Edward Sherry on February 16, 1954, and moved to NC. Together they traveled while Edward was a Master Parachutist in the U.S. Army. One of their deployments took them to Panama, where Mary was the President of the NCO Wives Club and volunteered at the local orphanage. Mary retired from GC Murphy's after 25 years, then she worked part-time at Save A Lot. In her free time, Mary volunteered at the Harmony Voting Polls. Edward and Sherry were married 47 years.
Mary always had a smile for everyone and loved meeting new people. She always looked forward to the grandkids' visit. Mary also loved to play cards with the grandkids and great grandkids. Mary loved to read and making crafts, including making plastic canvases.
Mary was survived by one sister, Yvonne Jeffries (Harmony); 3 children Eugene Sherry (Georgia), Kevin Sherry (Havelock, NC) and Kathy Welch (Havelock, NC); 9 grandchildren, Bridget Duran, Rebecca Rhodes, Matthew Sherry, Lora Vidana, Julie Droese, Travis Sherry, Kim Hickman, Heather Wood, Kevin M. Shery; 22 great-grandchildren, Tori Jennings, Nick Duran, Parker Samples, Zack Chicas, Aleck Vidana, Maverick Seltz, Loralie Seltz, Eleanor Kickman, Silas Hickman, Owen Hickman, Miranda Sherry, Helena Droese, Evelyn Droese, Logan Wood, Parker Wood, Kereston Sherry, K'Lynn Sherry, Katie Nichols, Jackie Rhodes, Felecia Rhodes, and Jeremiah Rhodes; 5 great great-grandchildren, Gaden Jennings, Elyse Jennings, Steven Nichols, David Rhodes, Greyson Duran; and many loving family members and close friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sherry; great-grandson, Aiden Duran; mother, Gatha Rhodes; father, Esau Rhodes; son-in-law, Stephen Welch; brother, Kenneth Rhodes; 3 special uncles, Otho Jones, Emery Jones, and Harvey Jones; a special cousin, Ayward Jones; and numerous cousins.
Mary was a longtime member of Harper Memorial Church and as a youngster she attended Shady Dale Church. Mary had some very special friends, Pat Stevens and Enid Harpold.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Harper Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on June 29, 2024. She will be laid to rest by her husband at a private ceremony.
