

Miriam Sue Sumner, 64, of Cove City passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday August 22, 2020. She was a daughter of the late Joseph W. Sumner and Velma Brinson and the beloved wife of 29 years of Timothy (T.C) Smith.
Miriam could be found sitting on her back porch overlooking all of God's creations. A nature lover, she believed a picture was worth more than a thousand words. As an avid photographer she even took pictures for the Sun Journal. A true artistic soul she loved to paint, sing, play her guitar and enjoyed time spent with family and friends, especially Holiday gatherings at her home.
After working many years within the Craven county government systems she was asked to assist in creating the Coastal Regional Solid Waste Management Authority now known as Coastal Environmental Partnership. She served as the finance officer for 28 years receiving multiple Accounting Awards.
In addition to her Loving Husband T. C., Miriam is also survived by her children; Elizabeth Sumner Potter, Lauren Smith Walker and Joshua Kaleb Smith (Mary), five grandchildren; Haley, Mikayla, Jace, Madelyn and Edith, three siblings; Nancy Rinkenberger (Marcia), Linda Bloomfield (Billy) and Willie Sumner(Deanna), four nieces and nephews; Lisa, Samantha, Ben, Rebecca and many friends and extended family.
A celebration of Miriam's life will take place at the home on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm.
