

Morton Jacobs, 94 of New Bern, passed away March 8, 2018. Born October 17, 1923 in Chicago, IL to Meyer and Clara Jacobs. When he was three years old, they moved to Grand Haven, MI. He graduated from Grand Haven High School in June, 1941. Morton entered the US Army during WWII and served in the Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was with the 1st Special Service Force, a joint US/Canadian Commando Unit which is known as the Devils Brigade. He received the Congressional Gold Medal, the French Legion of Honor, Norway’s Freedom Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. After discharge he entered Michigan State College School of Engineering where he met his wife Marilyn. They were married for 66 ½ years.
As a professional Engineer, he worked as a Consultant Manufacturing Engineer. He retired from AMCA International as Group Vice President of Manufacturing. He lived in River Bend since 1986. He served as Chairman of the Town Planning Board and he enjoyed playing golf.
Morton is survived by his wife, Mollie Marilyn Jacobs, two sons, Lee Jacobs (Lisa) of Poway, CA, Jeff Jacobs of Bassett, VA, and four grandchildren, Kyle, Brent (Vicky), Thomas and Kendall.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm. Sunday March 11, 2018 at his home. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Miramar National Service Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
