Rachel Anne Marks was known by almost all who knew her as “Dixie”. During her lifetime she was a caring nurse, a curious world-traveler, an avid reader, and a skilled sailor. But more than what she did, she will be remembered by who she was. Dixie was someone who was exceptionally interested in people and their stories. She made friends everywhere she went because she genuinely enjoyed learning about people and their lives, and sharing her own interesting life with others. She was full of vigor and enthusiasm for life.
Dixie was a wonderful wife and partner of 53 years to Chet Marks. Together they raised two daughters and have four grandchildren. She leaves behind a large extended family as well, and was a beloved sister and aunt. She relished all of these roles in life and was an outstanding wife, Mom, and Nana to those who she loved so much and who loved her in equal measure.
Our family would like to thank all of our friends and family for your support and love. We have a special appreciation for Community Hospice and Home Instead Healthcare. Thank you for your loving care. Also thank you to the sisters of the PEO Chapter BB, who were huge source of joy for our mom in health and illness.
I’m standing on the seashore,
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze, and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch her until she hangs
like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, “There she goes!”
Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side,
and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me and not in her.
And just at that moment when someone at my side says: “There she goes!” t
here are other eyes that are watching for her coming; and other voices that are ready to take up the glad shout: “There she is!”
